Some Google Movement From My Main Niche Site

I just checked the position of my main niche site in Google, and it has moved up 2 places from 14 to 12! I'm very happy with this for a number of reasons - firstly because it has been stuck at number 14 for most of the last 2 months, and secondly because I haven't really done a lot with it lately, particularly when it comes to backlinking.

To break into the top 10 would be pretty big. It's a very competitive niche, and the keyword phrase I've targeted gets 500-600 searches per day. I always planned to be in the top 10(ideally number 1) when we launch our product in the coming months. But why wait? I'm hungry to be there right NOW, so I'll be doing some backlinking in the coming days and weeks, as well as adding some fresh content.

It feels really nice to know we have a strong site - some of the sites around it have been around for 10 years+ and have masses of backlinks and reputation. My approach has been to fill it with good content, make sure it has good onpage SEO, and create a presence for it. It seems to be working nicely. Can we crack the number 1 spot? I think we can in the future, I have no doubt. No matter what niche you are in, don't be intimidated by the competition - do things right and you can be up there with them.
